CGPA to Percentage Calculator
Convert your CGPA using the rule that applies to your course.
How to convert CGPA to percentage
There is no single CGPA-to-percentage formula for every institution. CGPA means cumulative grade point average. Its percentage equivalent depends on the grading rules that apply to your course. Select a supported multiplier or enter a custom linear formula.
For a CGPA of 8.2, multiplying by 9.5 gives 77.9%. Multiplying by 10 gives 82%. Both calculations are mathematically correct; only the rule specified by your institution determines which answer belongs on an application.
CGPA conversion examples
| CGPA | CGPA × 9.5 | CGPA × 10 |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | 57% | 60% |
| 7 | 66.5% | 70% |
| 8 | 76% | 80% |
| 9 | 85.5% | 90% |
| 10 | 95% | 100% |
Using a custom conversion formula
If your published rule is (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, expand the brackets to CGPA × 10 − 7.5. Choose Custom formula, enter your scale, set the multiplier to 10 and the offset to −7.5. For 8.2 CGPA, that produces 74.5%.
Custom mode also supports other grading scales when you know the applicable formula. It does not assume that a 4-point GPA is converted by dividing by four. Piecewise tables, letter-grade mappings and nonlinear formulas cannot be represented by one multiplier and offset.
CGPA, SGPA and percentile are different
CGPA describes a cumulative grade-point average; SGPA describes a semester grade-point average. Use the value and conversion rule required for the result you are reporting. A percentage expresses a score out of 100, while a percentile describes a position relative to other results. This converter cannot derive a percentile or an admission rank from CGPA.
Which conversion rule should I use?
Start with your transcript, examination regulations or the issuing institution’s conversion certificate. Check the programme and examination year, not just the institution’s name. The CBSE 2015–16 annual report documents the historical indicative rule 9.5 × CGPA. That example does not establish the rule for a current university course.
A conversion is different from a change in marks. If you are comparing two percentages, our guide to percentage points and percentage change explains how to describe the difference.

Common questions
Is CGPA × 9.5 always correct?
No. Use it only if it is the stated rule for your qualification. A different multiplier, offset or conversion table may apply.
What is 8 CGPA as a percentage?
It is 76% under a ×9.5 rule and 80% under a ×10 rule. Check your institution’s required method before using either value.
Why does my result show an error?
The CGPA must fit the selected scale, and the formula must produce a value from 0% to 100%. The calculator does not silently cap an invalid result.
Should I average my semester percentages?
Not unless your institution explicitly requires it. Different semesters can have different credit weights. Use the final CGPA and conversion method specified on your academic record.
